Arrived at 1pm after a 3 hour drive, near Vegas was the only pain in the ass. We were lucky enough to get a spot in the park, it is all first come first serve. There are 2 campgrounds and we needed 3 spots, the first had 2 available and we came over here to Arch campground and there were about 10 available so we are all together. After setting up and eating lunch (Beef Stew cooked on the way) we struck off to do some sight seeing. First stop was Mouse Hole, apparently an outlaw used this as a hideout, we walked back the trail which is in red rich rock and the sand is remnants of the rock, along the way were hundreds of petroglyphs and surely thousands of them had washed away over the years but many still remained.
After this little hike we headed down the road to an overlook, interesting to see red rock outcroppings right next to everyday ole grey sandstone looking rocks. Quite awesome. On the way we saw 4 Bighorn sheep off to the side grazing so we stopped and got a few pictures. By the time we finished looking at the outlook we needed to head back as you are suppose to be back in the campground by sunset. Glad we did cause about 15 minutes later a nice size Bighorn Ram came wandering into the campground, it just took its time and stopped behind the jeep and looked around before meandering over towards some other campers having their dinner where it just kind of veered off and into the brush, quite an incredible site and especially for Deanna since she hasn’t seen any Bighorn since we have been coming west and then to have one just 30 feet from her was special!
Tomorrow we will check out some additional spots and will write and post pictures of those when once again there is access to the internet. In Trona we had no service and then in Death Valley we only had 3G which is worse than dial up internet! Here we dont have any service in the campground but at the overlook we had 5 bars of 5G!
