East Lake Harbor State Park

November 4th, 2015

We have been here at this park for a couple of days now. Nice and quiet. This morning when we got up we saw a guy across the road in the woods raking leaves, seems odd since it is a state park. Then we noticed he had a lot of deer hanging around him, so Jessie and I set out to see what the deal was. Turns out this guy has been coming here for over 20 years and he feeds the deer, the park employees told him the corn cobs were hard on the mowers so he would have to clean the area.....WHAT! That is the most absurd thing I have heard in a long time. Anyway he enjoys feeding the deer and they don't seem to mind it. They are still a little skittish but they don't run far from him. This old guy just likes to share some time with nature and this is how he does it.

Park is not crowded, maybe 10 people here, basically we have it all to ourselves and when we go down to the beach we also are pretty much alone. Across the water you can see the Peace Memorial tower. Water is calm as can be. Here are some pics to just enjoy rather than read. This is our last day here and we will head home after lunch. Been a great time visiting these 2 parks the last few days. Always enjoy being around the water.

This is our last venture for this season, time to put the motorhome into rest mode. Next year we start again!

Time to move to East Lake Harbor

November 2nd, 2015

We packed up this morning and came back to visit the beach for a while then head to East Harbor State Park. It also is first come first serve and hoping it doesn't have a lot of people. Not anticipating any since it is Monday.

Before we left we climbed to the top of the look out hill.

Lake Erie we return!

October 31st, 2015

We wanted to come back when things were much quieter  here at Maumee Bay so end of October first of November sounded right and the weather was cooperating. We arrived on Saturday afternoon, most of the campground is closed now and they do not take reservations so it is first come first serve. The camp host's are all gone and the camp check in is closed so we pay by self registration. It is discounted in the off season and only a couple loops are open. There are only a couple campers here but there is a deer hunting season on Monday so the camping is limited even more. We decided not to bring the car this time as we planned on just hanging out at the shoreline and not wander around.

So the routine is get up in the morning get motivated and we unplug and head down to the parking lot at the beach and just sit and enjoy the water in the privacy of our RV. Virtually no one is here except for a few sightseer's who stop, take a photo and move on. Its a wonderful day but a little chilly and the water is so calm that it is hard to imagine what it would look like angry as we have probably all seen pictures of the horrendous waves up here. No much more relaxing than just kicking back, have some coffee and enjoy the sights!

We are gonna spend a few days here and then head over to East Harbor State Park.

Spay!

September 2nd, 2015

We took Jessie in to be spayed today. I know we felt worst about it this morning but now she does! The surgery became more involved than expected with some additional tissue being inflamed and some cysts on her ovaries. Fortunately we caught this now as the Dr. Said a year or two from now it certainly would have been much more serious. So she lays here tonight still groggy from the drugs and sore from the pain. Dr Kari and her team did such a great job of taking care of her at the Urbana Vet Clinic.

No running a or jumping for about a week and no swimming for 2 weeks. She feels bad now but in a few days she will be better and healthier for the future.

Fido Swimfest!

August 23rd, 2015

Today the Urbana city pool is allowing dogs to come swim for free in the pools as it is closing for the year, this is the second annual event.

Jessie got in the water and didn't mind the kiddy pool but wasn't all that crazy about the deep pool. Deanna wonders if it is because the water is so clear and she can see the bottom. I'm thinking next weekend I am going to take her kayaking again, we will see if she still has the same interest n jumping in the lake again. :)

Before she got wet!

Happy Anniversary!

August  9th, 2015

Well today makes 35 years since we got married! Seems so quick.

Today we are going to venture over to Marble Head Lighthouse. They were giving tours but I forgot it was on Saturday and not Sunday :-/. When we arrived it wasn't too busy but before we left it was hopping. The waves were pretty active.
Jessie wanted in the water but when I took her out on the rocks and she got splashed by the waves she wasn't so impressed :)

On the way home Jessie got tired of riding

Maumee Bay

August 8th, 2015

We made our first trip to Maumee Bay in Oregon Ohio to the State Park. We came here for our Anniversary of 35 years! Beautiful weather and we had no rain and temps were low 80's most of the time. Maumee Bay Park is laid out like the fingers of your hand with a cul-de-sac  at each end. We were on one of these cul-de-sac' s  with a pond on the back side of us. We opted to pull in towards the pond so we could see it in the morning rather than the neighbors rv.
The beach is only about a mile away by road or a little less if you take the bike trail. This weekend the beach's have a algae bloom alert so not many swimmers but a few.

Saw lots of deer  and even saw one doe with 4 fawns. That was weird, the ranger suspects she may have adopted 2 of them if maybe the mother was killed.

While there I did a little metal detecting on the beach, that was a flop. Think I found .12c. Ohio grooms and sifts their beaches to probably keep glass and crap out but in the mean time they get all the good stuff..
Jessie wasn't allowed on the beach which was just as well since we wouldn't let her get in the water with the algae warnings.

Jessica and horseback riding

July 16th, 2015

Well finally Jessica (grand daughter) and I got to go horseback riding! Last year we were scheduled to go and the night before she broke her ankle :(. This year was much better, we went to the Spotted Horse Ranch in Hocking Hills. There were only 4 riders including ourselves so a very personal ride.  We had an awesome time, they have some water buffalo, deer and goats there with several Ginny hens. The ride was only about an hour and we were scheduled for 2 hours but all the rain they had recently there washed out a lot of the trails. Jess rode like a pro, steering the horse where ever she wanted it to go. After the ride we grabbed some lunch and made a quick stop to see Ash cave then headed home! Wonderful to spend some one on one with this sweetheart of a child! One the the most caring considerate persons in the world, we love her to no end.

And then the day was done! Sleep well little beauty!

Thanks for being you sweetheart! We love you!
