This one was an Indian scout.

We stopped on out trek north to visit the Little Bighorn battlefield, this is where Custer made his last stand. I was I awe at the size of the areas the battle took place on, there are markers where soldiers and Indians fell during battle. Which included general Custer and his brother who died one in front of the other.

They even had a graveyard for the horses which soldiers shot so they could use them as protection by hiding behind them.
In the 80's there was a wild fire that burnt most of the surrounding area so they took the opportunity to search for relics and found over 1900 items.
There is a fierce conflict of what actually happened at the battle, historians say they have eye witness accounts of participants while archeologists say that is not reliable due to warriors wanting to embellish their accomplishments by saying they killed Custer. It obviously was a hell of a battle and worth seeing the site much like seeing Gettysburg. The grounds is also a veterans burial ground for Montana vets of all wars, we found a couple of interesting tombstones.
This soldier died just 7 months short of 100 years old and had fought in the Spanish America war

Looking out over the battlefield below
Our backyard for the night. Just 50 yards. Away are 2 deer bedded down for the night under a tree but I don't have a picture as I didn't want to scare them off.
Below is a pic looking south, the clouds have the mountains hidden but a little while ago they lifted some and the tops a covered with snow, more than when we arrived. I will try to get a picture in the morning if they are visible.
One more day in the lower 48 and into Canada on Thursday. Blogging may be delayed as we await a connection..
