At our Home Park

June 20th, 2008 Friday 77* cloudy

Today we made the last leg of our trip to our Home park. Home park means it is a membership park we bought into in anticipation of being on the road fulltime again. It gives us a place to set down if we need a rest, our cost is only $2 a day and the fees for the year are only $100. We can spend 21 days straight here and then have to be out for 7 days. The campground is located about 15 miles south of Crossville Tennessee, it's kind of remote in location which is good as it is quiet compared to a lot of campgrounds located on highways or near airports! Nice little quiet park and is available to members only.

Interesting thing happened when we were pulling out of our site when leaving Dickson. We had a large motorhome parked beside us so I knew I had to swing wide to miss it. We are almost out of our site and the truck comes to an sudden stop! I thought Oh SHIT ! did I just hit that motorhome! Well a guy comes running out of the motorhome towards the truck which just intensifies my thought! Fortunately I did not hit them but he was running out to tell us we had a wheel locked up. So I try backing up and pulling forward and no go, she is locked solid, he comes around on the other side and the same thing. Now, I am thinking to myself that maybe I have a short in the brake wires so I disconnect the power plug but no go! So now we are down to having to remove the wheels. SO I pull a wheel off and sure enough seems like the brake linings are to tight, so I loosen them up and slide the drum back on but it still seems to tight. Pull drum back off and the magnet comes off with the drum, then it hits me! The EMERGENCY PLUG on the brake away system is pulled! Sure enough the cable got wedged under a part of the hitch and pulled it out automatically locking all the wheels! Put the wheel back on adjusted the brakes put plug back in and away we went! LOL! Some days are just like that I guess! I'm just glad I didn't hit that $300,000 Allegro Bus!

From there on it was an uneventful drive! Less than 4 hours and we were here, THEN we back into our spot and get the rv all setup and I plug into the power and go about my business. Few minutes later I come inside and notice the power is not on. Hmmmmm Well we have a unit called an EMS or Electrical Management System, its job is to make sure that all the power is all correct as far as being 60 Hrz 120 volts and no open grounds or reversed polarity. I check the display and sure enough it reads a code for reverse polarity. HMMMM this ain't right! So the office was temporarly closed so we used or solar power till I could get someone to look at it.

Couple hours later they send someone down to look at it, at first it was not starting out well, he asked what was wrong and I told him the power had reverse polarity. He says "Well we have probably had 500 people hook up to that post and never had any problem" I said well I'm not plugging my rv into it and risking my wife getting shocked! SO he pulls the plug out and says "see it is right" I said lets go look at the one over here that is CORRECT! Now he is puzzled and says " I don't know how the power could have ever got reversed!" Well neither do I but I'm not burning up my rv in the mean time." "What do you want me to do he says "I said REVERSE THE DAMN WIRES! "LOL he did and all is well. They have just been lucky that no one ever got hurt plugging into this post. For those aware of how electric works there was 120volts AC between the ground and the Neutral wire! I spent about $400 on this unit and this is not the first time it has saved us! Good insurance!.

So electric is good and by the time the job was done we were kidding with each other, him making fun of me for being from Ohio and me making fun of his Tennessee wiring! All is well now.

Although it is raining a bit. The manager gave us some great info on things to see and do and places to eat. So we went the to local market that has a restaurant to check it out. We had a slice of cake and scoop of ice cream and a glass of sweet tea. One thing about Tennessee, they know how to make sweet tea! We got the scoop on tomorrows dinner being Prime rib and all the trimmings so you can bet we will be back there for that! On the way out I said to Deanna, "don't we need milk?" so we pick up a gallon of milk and a gallon of bottled water, I pay for it and we leave. On the way out I told Deanna "this is gourmet milk as it just cost $6 a gallon! Holy Cow! Won't be buying anymore milk there!

Enough of that for now, maybe tomorrow I will have some pictures to post of some trips! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Now you're in MY old neck of the woods. I lived in Sparta, just down the hill from Crossville. Mike & I moved there just before he passed. Plus when we first married we bought 7 acres just outside Crossville for retirement property. Ended up selling it later but that's what brought us back to the area. Enjoy!!

You will have to ask Terry about the time he tore the coach apart to find out why half the coach power went down. I finally suggested the GFI in the bathroom. Oops!

Too bad you guys don't know any good mechanics.
