Like a Fall day

June 21st, 2008 Saturday 77* cloudy

Nice day, not to much humidity or heat. Decided to go in search of a Mennonite town everyone keeps talking about, so off we go. First I need to stop at the Walmart and fill the fuel tanks. OUCH! $295 for that chore! We averaged 10 mpg on our trip from Arkansas, that is slowly getting better as we use to average abour 8-8.5 so the engine is getting broken in and starting to improve. Well after that pain went away we headed north in search of this town which has all types of stores but in particular is a leather store, I wanted to get a new belt and supposedly they have real pure leather not any of that damn walmart chinese crap that is sewn together and they are only $15. So north I head when I realize I wasn't smart enough to bring the map we needed and didn't remember where it was, so we drove around a bit in hopes of seeing a sign but that never happened so I gave up and decided to head for Fall Creek Falls, which has one of the tallest falls east of the rockies at 256'. Here is a link to the falls , after looking at their site I see they have a total of 5 different falls but we only got to see the one.

A really cool thing I saw on the way which I have never seen before was a doe about 20 feet off the road in the woods that was nursing a fawn! Wish I could have gotten a picture but didn't. Too much traffic to stop. The fawn was standing completely under the mother as if to keep them hard to see. It was really really cool! This is a big park and didn't seem very well marked as for getting to the falls. Took some additional roads in search of them.

We left the falls and went to the little cafe I spoke of the other night for their Prime rib dinner. 10oz, with baked potato and salad and roll. It was ok, nothing to scream about but a good dinner.

So taking a shower yesterday I find a critter hitching a ride on me, a damn TICK! Plucked it off and today does not seem to be any infection but then I found one on Major on his head that was WELL attached! I finally got it out and he was glad to have me quit pestering him about it! :) He is on monthly medication for fleas and ticks and obviously it doesn't do what they say! Deanna and I both had been getting bites on our legs and just thought they were mosquitoes , well now I am thinking it was the damn tick looking for a place to homestead! YUCK!

I finally took some pictures of the campground here. Today they are having an Ice Cream social which I am sure we will attend! This is a nice campground and really quiet, but most of the old folks don't yell much :) except when they gather for their daily old foggie yatzee party! That is the extent of the noise for the most part.

So today I guess we are going to go to Knoxville to surprise Mike at work as he does not know we are in Crossville yet I guess. Its about a 70 mile trip to where he works, he will be surprised for sure.

So far today the weather is beautiful with the sun shining and just a few clouds out. Yesterday it rained some on our way to the falls and then after we got home from eating there was some thunder and a little sprinkling but nothing else happened. At least here it is much cooler than in Arkansas and the humidity is much lower. When we get up in the morning here it is cool probably in the 60's there we woke up to mid 70's right off the bat!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Hey guys,

I didn't realize that y'all where back on the road! I decided this morning to take a peek at your blog to see if there was anything new - surprise, surprise!

Is this a vacation or are you really back? Which ever, have fun and try not to hit any motorhomes -especially an Allegro Bus!
