September 30th, 2008 Temp 62* and rainy
We it started raining during the night and pretty much carried through to the morning with heavy down pours at times. Judy called about 8:30 and wanted to know if we were ready to go metal detecting, and of course we were not! Were on vacation and in slow mode and with the rain off and on we didn't make it out till probably 10:00 that day. She had permission to hunt a field across from her property were an old 1800's cabin stood at one time so we really wanted to find it's location in hopes of some really old stuff. Deanna started out first thing right in the drive way and found a $2 toonie they call them, its just a $2 coin that is silver with a gold insert in it, in the same hole she also found a quarter. So far I have found NOTHING :) she goes a bit further and finds a 1942 Canadian Penny and she is really doing well as Judy nor myself have yet to find anything.
We got to the suggested location of the old cabin and started searching for square nails as an indicator we were in the right location but never did find any. Judy and Deanna started finding old musket balls though and ended up with about 5 of them. Finally hunger got the best of us and we headed for lunch and waited for a friend of Judys, Louisa who we call Wezzie on the forum. When we got back Wezzie was waiting on us and we had lunch and visited before we headed back to the spot.
After returning Deanna and I were hunting one part of a field and not finding much and Judy was in the area of the cabin and found some cool stuff, no coins but found an old Military British Navy button from the EARLY 1800's and a buckle along with some more musket balls and an old spoon. Meanwhile Wezzie was hunting the perimeter of a field and found a 1901 Large Canadian cent! She called us over and we all searched that area pretty well but only other thing found was a dollar coin I came across and some broken arrowheads just spotted on the ground. Wezzie found a fantastic but broken Spear head. Deanna found another quarter and I found one more musket ball. We decided to call that hunt done so we could head back to the house for supper.
While waiting on the meal to be prepared Judy suggested to Wezzie that she try her hay field that had just been cut, so Wezzie and I grabbed our detectors and headed out for that. I hadn't been there 2 minutes and found the oldest coin ever for me, it was an 1876 Large Canadian Cent! I was extremely happy to find one of these! We hunted that field for about 45 minutes and that was the extent of my finds and Wezzie found a buckle of some kind.

For supper Judy and Joe fixed us grilled steak and shrimp with mashed potatoes! What a meal and WAY to much food for us especially for as late as it was in the evening. So we ate more than we needed but enjoyed it. Spent the rest of the evening visiting again and planned a hunt at a local park for tomorrow. Thursday we are going to Niagara Falls and the lake.
