Canada Day 1

September 29th, 2008 Monday 65* cloudy

We arrived today in Canada to visit a friend I made on one of the metal detecting forums, her name is Judy. Judy and her husband Joe live on 20 acres in Ontario that is along the Grand River and what a beautiful sight it is to see. They have the property all cleared right down to the water and have a fire ring and lots of firewood. Our trip through customs was no problem, they asked for passports, if the truck and rv belonged to us, were we carrying any guns and that was it we were on our way! Kind of goofy getting use to them having Kilometers for speed and most of what we did was a maximum of about 50 mph. Takes forever to get anywhere :) But we arrived no problem to an excellent welcome sign and they parked us down by the river for the view when we wake up. NOW, let me not pass over how I had to thread the rv thru a couple of trees to get into the property, with the entrance being basically a 90 degree turn off a narrow road. The front right fender almost pushing over a post and the left rear of the rv missing a tree by literally 1inch! VERY CLOSE! But we got into position and got set up just fine. Of course they had sunny weather all the week before but now it is cloudy and raining as can be expected! Little hard to produce electricity with solar panels when there is nothing but clouds out! A little generator use will be in order at least for today.

So first Judy gives us a big welcome basket to Canada and their home which included some popcorn and homemade sticky buns and some coins (metal detecting trip remember :) ) and a real nice card! Inside the card was a note that I was going on a treasure hunt that afternoon. So with rain threatening Judy was anxious to get me started. There were 6 coins all together for me to find and each one I found had another clue to the location of the next. She actually made it to easy from being to anxious to, that she kept telling me COLD COLD WARMER HOT! LOL Anyway I found all 6 coins in a short time and all of them were really cool Canadian coins and old ones

For dinner she fixed spaghetti with meatballs and homemade sauce and bread! WOW was it good, we normally only eat one meal a day and it is at noon time so this was a way late meal for us but SOOOO goood! We finished our meal had some coffee and then headed down to the river to make a fire. We sat around the fire till about 11 that night just talking and trying to avoid the smoke that kept chasing us! Finally we had enough and had to call it a night as it was a long day from traveling and visiting

OH, one neat thing I forgot to mention. I found 2 holes were snapping turtles had buried their eggs and that had hatched. Pretty cool, the one hole was just out in front of our rv and there were 2 turtles who did not make it to the water, the other hole was in the field we hunted, lots of broken egg shells but no turtles in sight.
