Arizona and Holding!

** Where we are now**

January 31st, 2006

Currently we are still in the Sonoran desert. Been almost a month now and we are holding in there real well. Getting water and dumping the tanks is second nature now and the solar is doing fantastic! All of our friends are gone now and headed to other places. Today we said goodbye for a while to Terry and Dale and Mark. We will meet up with them in Elkhart Indiana next April for a rally that Terry and Dale are having and we have attended for the last 3 years. We will be back home on about the 5th of April and be there till at least till the 21st. Then it is up in the air as the rally is starting on the 21st and we may come back to Ohio after because of the doctor appointment I have. BUT if I can wiggle out of that appointment we can leave from Indiana making a stop to visit my niece Christine and family Brian and Ema headed for our NEW JOB! Yep we landed a job as camp hosts in Tonto National Forest in Payson Arizona. Elevation 5100', temps in mid summer of low 90's and 60's at night. We will be hosting a part of the campground called 'Horsemans Camp' , it is a section that only people with horses can stay in. Limited hours of 25 per week between us and a salary to boot! That starts on May 1st and goes thru Labor day. Hopefully that will get our foot in the door for other National park jobs. As of now we are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon when leaving the host job as it is only about 275 miles away. From there who knows?

Right now we are waiting for the house to get closed on and soon as that happens we will leave the desert here in destination for the Central California Coast, Morrow Strand Beach and visit our friend Tony who camp hosts there. A couple of weeks on the beach sounds pretty interesting eh! Then when leaving there we will come back thru here headed for Yuma to meet some of our other friends to camp in the desert there for a week or so. After that we will travel with Ken and Kathy along the southern coast headed for Florida (Tampa area) to visit Mike for a week or so. Then from there to Ohio to visit Bill, Molly and kids and check up on Tabitha to see how much she has grown in the last 7 months.

Well it is nearing sunset here 6:10pm and it is going to be another beautiful one. Sorry all of you guys still have to work cause it is just fantastic out here roaming around. Hope you are all well and staying healthy. Till next time, see you under the moon!

January 27th, 2006

Well, our graduation rally is basically over. There are still several of us left and we have moved up front to get off of the rough road we had to travel to get home. We are now sitting pretty close to the front gate 1/8 of a mile or so. Water and dump facilities are much closer. Town will be a breeze to get to now. We finished up our seminars I had planned with Nick Russell from the Gypsy Journal and a guy named Marvin for on the road connectivity that Ken and Kathy ran into. Both were very interesting to listen to. My time as a planner/coordinator have now come to an end and I am certainly going to enjoy that! We have made so many new friends since we have been here it is unbelievable, and yet some of our best have moved on such as Mickey and Patti. They have gone south to Yuma for a full hookup stay
in civilization. At the height of our rally we had probably 32+ rigs show up. Altogether approximately115 people have shown their faces here and that is fantastic! Has been a great time but we are exhausted. A couple of my favorite web status people came to join us and that is Tony Cornett and Malia Lane. Malia is still with us but Tony had to return to his camphosting job. I can not thank the two of them enough for showing up here to share our rally with us. Many thanks guys! Looks like the house deal is about to finalize and soon as that happens we are going to move on from here. The dust is terrible but the solitude is great and the sunsets and sunrises (when I get to see one) are FANTASTIC. Everyday they repeat themselves. Today it is near 70 and is suppose to be all next week. The wind is always blowing to some degree but today it is only about 5 mph at best. I just can't believe how blue the sky is and dark the nights are star lit and incredible. Our next move will most likey be the California coast to Morro Strand Beach. Once again it will be boondocking but being on the beach just sounds soooooo good. Malia just got an arial photograph of where we were so when I get a copy of it I will post that. Critter update: So far I have seen, a Sidewinder Rattlesnake, a small Scorpion, multiple lizzards and a Roadrunner. Have not found the Tarantula or Gila Monster and probaly will not. :( but anyway I have met some of my goals ! That is enough for today so we are gonna go in town and get some hot dogs to roast on the grill tonight and some propane to stay warm. So from sunny Arizona, so long!

The picture to the left is of the big tent area taken a week or so ago.

The picture to the right is of our RV's where we had the rally. This was after most had left. We are to the right of the road 3rd RV in.
As you can see there is a vast area un-used.

January 23, 2006

Our rally here in Quartzsite is well underway. With a little over 30 rigs showing up and some drop in's during the week. We have a group photo here you can see that it is quite a crowd. We have some seminars happening this week on various topics like camphosting, rv maintenence and metal detecting to name a few. Tonight we are having a potluck dinner with the group and the other night we had a great campfire with donations from most of the campers for wood. Not really to much available here in the desert and you are not allowed to collect it anyway. At the campfire we gave away a bunch of shirts donated by the RV.net forum group and my cyber friend Tony donated some Firedude t shirts. Tony is a retired firefighter who camphosts at Morrow Strand Beach in California. He came to join us for the rally. So we gave away all kinds of freebies. Some other friends of ours sent me coupons for 15% off on anything.

Update 1/24: The most recent updates disappeared because I did not get a chance to finish the update and saved it as a draft so it returns to the previous finished post. Anyway the last couple of days have been great. We have had some seminars on RV maintenence and camphosting, software and Dri Wash and Guard. Tomorrow we are having Metal Detecting and live music but the most waited on is by my friend Malia Lane. She has been a big inspiration for me as she writes and posts the most beautiful pictures and articles on places she visits. I have followed her site for a couple of years now and seen her ups and downs as she goes along. She tells it like it is. If she is happy she posts she is but if she is depressed she tells you so. The most honest site I have ever found. I asked her to come to our rally to do a year book and she graciously agreeded. Meeting her is a special treat for me and many others here. People have read on the websites I frequent, and emailing her personally that she was going to be here and they just flow in looking to find and meet her.
On Thursday we have Nick Russell from the Gypsy JournalNewspaper coming to talk to us and also a guy on Connectivity on the road. Nick is a seasoned RV'er that has been in publishing for many years and produces the paper Gypsy Journal. Him and his wife Terry travel all over the United States searching out back roads and places of interest and reporting on them so the rest of us can experience it. With several years of full time rv'ing under his belt he is a pro at this.

Several of the folks left today and 5 or 6 more are leaving tomorrow. That will leave probably 18-20 still here though. After this week we will move up closer to the road. The 3 miles back here into the desert is a pretty rough ride. I will try to post some pictures later. Our good travel friends Mickey and Patti are wore out with all the dust and heading on to greener pastures and hot showers with hookups! We will miss them but know that they want to get back to traveling. We can connect with them later if they want and share some more UNO games so that I can maybe win a game. We have had the greatest time sharing experiences with them. Good luck guys!

The big activities in town are well under way and WOOOOOO what a mess! Yesterday the traffic was backed up 1.5 miles past our exit out of the LTVA area here and we are 4 miles from town! Cops were having a hayday passing out parking tickets all weekend. We made it into the big tent on saturday. Some pretty good deals there. Elbow to elbow people though and lots of rude ones at that ! But in the overall it was worth experiencing. We will hang out here for a couple more weeks and then decide if we can make it to Morrow Strand Beach (central California coast) where Tony camphosts. Then back to Arizona but down south of here to Yuma to the LTVA (Long Term Visitors Area) there. Cost is only $30 for 2 weeks. We are really getting the hang of this boondocking with no hookups. Be we are both looking forwared to taking a nice long hot shower. Navy showers get you clean but aren't as relaxing.

In hunting for our resident lizzard today, while looking under the rock he hides under I came across a scorpion, but a small one. That is another one off my list. Still need a Tarantula and a Gila Moster! Well it is currently 11:30 here or 1:30 Ohio time and time to shut it down. Will write more when the wind moves me! See ya.

January 16th, 2006

I need to go back and fill in a couple of days. When we left Huachuca City we made a stop in Apache Junction which is right by the Superstition Mountains. The mountains are said to have been the spot of many deaths due to people trying to find the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine. I guess they get lost or fall to their death but either way they are dead! We stopped and stayed in a KOA that faces the mountains but we saw no one attempting to climb them then. :) This was a convenient spot to stay as we came this way to visit my Uncle David. We got over there that night we arrived and visited for a while. His son Dick and his wife have opened a restaurant called "Nozzleheads". Dick is a firefighter and is using that theme for the business. Uncle David took us there that night to eat and it was fantastic! We went back on the next day for lunch with our friends Mickey and Patti, Glenn and Diane. Food is great and I have put some pictures here of the restaurant. We had to leave on Wednesday but on Friday was Uncle Davids birthday and they were having a big party for him there. It's a great place to eat so if you are ever in the area please stop by and enjoy one of their great burgers or pizza's. Nozzlehead's Grill & Pub, 4920 S. Gilbert Rd., Suite 3, Chandler Az 85249

We are slowly getting some of our classmates here. We now have a total of 9, 1 coming in tomorrow and 3 on Wednesday and another Thursday. By the weekend most should be here. We are expecting about 40.

Have been metal detecting and snake hunting and neither is going very well. Have found some bottle tops and pull rings buried 4 inches in the ground but no gold. Glenn found a small piece of gold last week in another area near here. Mickey has now bought a detector so I think we will be doing that again real soon. As for snake hunting, no go but we did have a lizard come thru camp the other day and was kind enough to let me catch it for a show and tell period. It was only about 4 inches long and was quite colorful under his chin, a deep brilliant blue with some gold specs. We turned him loose after a quick peek and off he ran. I have seen many so far basking on rocks. The largest probably about 8-10 inches long.

The solar is working well and we have no problem catching up with what we used the day before so that is good. Have added water a couple of times and dumped some of the waste tanks. They have everything here we need as far as trash, water and sewage disposal. There is even a nudist colony a half mile away called the magic circle.

The wind was terrible last night as a cold front came thru. We had winds in the 40-50 mph range! It was good for getting rocked to sleep! They have died down now but the temps will be cooler for about a week only getting into the high 60's :) .

Gotta go eat some goodies over and Mikey and Patti's so that is all for now. Peace out!

January 8th, 2006

Today I finally achieved one of my goals and that was to find a Rattlesnake! We are walking in the desert about 75 feet from the trailer and Patti say’s “you suppose that is a snake hole” pointing at it with her finger, I said look out there’s a snake! And it was, a Sidewinder Rattlesnake about 10” long just hiding in the weeds! See today’s pictures. Now I need to find a scorpion and a Tarantula. :) I have also included pictures of the lava rock here and the innards of a cactus. Enjoy!
January 8th pictures

Well we are now in Quartzsite Arizona which has been my destination for the last 2 years. Desert is the proper term but not what I expected. I thought we would be in sand with cactus and that’s about it, well there are cactus and big beautiful ones obviously very old. Sand on the other hand is pretty non existent as the ground is almost like gravel but I believe it is probably lava rock. Lots of scrub trees and dead bushes also. There are some large stones that are quite porous. I will add a picture of one soon as I take it tomorrow. The temperature is fantastic, it has been mid 70’s since we got here and today was the first day you could actually call it cloudy and even then it was mostly sunny. Humidity here is like 3 percent so static electricity is terrible. Get out of the chair and get shocked, slide out of the truck and get shocked, pet the dog and get shocked..... get it?

In town is quite a show, there are hundreds of vendors selling everything you can image. Surprisingly there are some pretty good deals. People are all over the place and everywhere you look are hundreds and thousands of RV’s of all types. The big climax show isn’t for 2 weeks yet so things will be getting a lot busier yet. Rocks and Gems are a big deal here as this apparently is Gem central. Vendors bring in 1000’s of pounds of rocks and Gems to sell. Services to cut polish and turn your stones into jewelry is quite plentiful.

We are currently about 3 miles off the main road. The pavement ends 1.5 miles from where we are. There are RV’s all around us in the distance but none really close, other than there are 4 of us here right now sharing the same space. This should grow to about 50 rigs from our class of Fulltimers we started. There are cactus here probably 20 feet tall. I was checking out a dead one that had fallen a long time ago and was surprised to see that the inside is kind of like a tree in that there is a wood structure but it looks like wooden rope. I will also get some pics of that and post here. Critters are not apparent yet, we saw a dead tarantula at the check in office about 3 inches in diameter. We need to be aware of scorpions, rattlesnakes, spiders and who knows what else. No sign of any living things yet other than I did see a Praying Mantis but wondered what it is eating as everything here is pretty much dead.

This is our first real chance to test our solar use. The first day we used WAY to much as expected and it took us all the next day with solar and our little generator to recover. Today was much better and we recovered all the used electric by about 1pm. It takes a little getting use to as today was cloudy so we need to be aware of tomorrows weather to prepare for it. Our water supply is doing well. We store about 60 gallons and have maybe used 8 gallons so far in the last 2 days. Obvioulsy showers are Navy style in that you get wet soap up and rinse off. But at least we are clean!

Getting mail is our next obstacle, but we will probably go to a nearby town in California to see about either getting a PO Box or general delivery

January 1st, 2006

Well Happy New Year to all of our friends and family! Hard to believe that it is 2006 already. We will be leaving for the desert on tuesday making a stop in Chandler Arizona to visit my Uncle David. We have had a great time lounging her in Huachuca City for the month of December. Today we are going to try to get over to Fort Huachuca to see the museum there. It is still an active Military Base. Interestingly enough down the road on the east side the land is marked off as military installation and warns "no trespassing, artillery impact area!" Probably not the place to go rock hunting I suppose.
I took a drive east thru Texas Canyon to try to find a piece of land he had bought a couple of year ago. On the way there I passed a sign that said Amerind Museum. So on the way back I stop to see what it was all about. It was American Indian relics including some dated BC. Behind the museum is part of Texas Canyon.

This is another beautiful sunset on New Years Day evening. Temps were high 60's with some floating clouds. We sure love this area as every day is sunny and warm and then we are rewarded with sights like this!

While taking a hike thru a local State Park I got a shot of this Jack rabbit (Hare). Gotta Kind of look close cause I did not want to scare it away before I got a picture of it.

December 2005

Look where we are no
w!

December 29th, 2005

Not much going on just loafing and fixing some projects on the trailer. Just wanted to share a couple of pictures.

The picture to the left is of a huge hare we saw at the local park. It was the size of a small dog and ears 12" long!

MERRY GRINCHMAS EVE!

Thought I would update the blog before xmas. Not much going on just loafing and working on some trailer projects. Days have been much warmer this last week with temps into the 70's but nights are still getting down to the 30's. Still much better than the weather back home!

Deanna has been busy making cookies, goatmeal, chocolate chip and sugar cookies. Tomorrow we are getting together with all the other couples that met up here for a xmas feed. We are just going to do the sandwich and snack thing, althought Kathy is cooking a turkey and Patti is cooking a ham. Deanna is fixing corn casserole and we are taking a carmel apple pie for dessert. We have our stocking hanging from the fireplace, Deanna's, Majors and mine with the Grinch sticking out of the top :) . We don't buy gifts for each other but we still hang the stockings. We will miss being with the kids and grandkids but I think there will be plenty to keep them busy and distracted. We talked to Jessie last night and she already got some of her gifts from Daddy and Molly.

Our friends Mickey and Patti just traded their motorhome in on a brand new 5th wheel trailer and truck. They bought a 37' with 3 slides and lots of space. Seems as though they will be very happy with the room. We went with them when they looked at it and then went back with them on Thursday to transfer everything over to the 5th wheel. Pretty quick transfer actually. It took the 4 of us 2 hours and we had everything moved.

Well, we wish everyone a great holiday and to all the family we love you guys.

December 9th, 2005

Today
was reserved for Tombstone exploring. What a great time we had wondering the town and imagining what it was like back in the 1880's. So many of the stores are copied from the old days and sitting watching the cowboys walk by with their guns strapped on and horses tied up to hitching posts, stage coaches sitting in the road and the sounds of gun shots around the corner! Our first stop today was for lunch at Big Nose Kate's Saloon. We had the famous BBQ sandwich and it was not only filling but delicious. While waiting for our food a local gun slinger stopped by to visit with us. We par-took in some role playing shown below............

Here is Patti and Mickey having a little fun!

A few pictures from in town.

This is a shot of the Moon over the Marshal's Office in Tombstone!

Some shots from the Ghost Town of Gleason!

December 2nd, 2005

Temperature today 78 degrees! Sunny and beautiful. Good day to loaf and that is just what I did. Made a trip to Huachuca City to look around. Suppose to be 70's for the next 3 or 4 days. I have some maintanence things to do tomorrow on the trailer so I will actually be working. Mainly I just wanted to share the great photo's I took tonight of the sunset. Enjoy as we sure are, sorry it's so cold back in Ohio but we will try to soak up some heat and bring back with us!

December 1st, 2005

Destination:Arizona- I think the very first picture says it all! Beware of rattlesnakes!

We made it to our December campsite, Mountain View in Huachuca City Arizona. Five other couples that are in our Graduating group of Fulltimers are here also, Mickey & Patti, Smokey & Pam, John & Doni, Ken & Kathy and Bill & Helen. Haven't had a chance to do much yet but we got setup and I got the satellite zeroed in for internet and tv and then Pam made Chili for the group. So we all set around and visited and ate chili with pumkin pie and Apple Crisp for dessert.

Once again the landscape is beautiful! This time we say the dry vast spanse of land turn to greener and very SANDY real estate. More rocky type mountain ranges. Mountains hidden behind clouds yet bleeding thru is unreal. We are told that this is nothing compared to going north of here towards the Grand Canyon. Tomorrow we will get out and start exploring. We passed a Cavern State Park on the way here and the old town of Tombstone about 20 miles away. There are also lots of Ghost towns nearby. So December will fly by.

The truck did good today, no real headwind and somewhat flat driving with some 500' elevation changes but nothing serious. We probably averaged 10mpg today. We hit elevations today of about 5100'

November Posts

Where we are! We're number 2003 on the map

Wednesday November 30th, 2005

We did some shopping today with Mickey and Patti as they were drueling over new motorhomes at a Campging World just over the border in Texas. We did get a free lunch from the dealership though that was quite good. Slow roasted beef and salad with chocolate cake to top it all off. They did not buy but we had a great time looking and dreaming.

We took the second half of the afternoon going to White Sands Missile Range and Museum. Below are some pictures from there. Interestingly the only president to visit White Sands was President Kennedy. This is where the first Nuclear bomb was tested back during the war and just prior to dropping the bomb on Japan. Hmmmmm makes you wonder about he notice we saw hanging in the office of the park here that warned of some wells containing amounts of uranium over the allowable amount. I asked about it and he said what notice! Hmmm Maybe we can be our own night light! Anyway, we had a great time visiting the museum and reading all the info on tests done there. The Range is on the opposite side of the mountain range shown below. What a fantastic sight in these mountains. WE are REALLY enjoying this. Tomorrow we leave headed for Arizona, will write more then.

Tuesday November 29th, 2005

Las Cruces New Mexico is the setting for tonight. This is about 250 miles from our Pecos campground. The drive was incredible! Elevation changed from 2500' to 4700' and back down again. The scenery was STUNNING! To see the mountains in real is soooo much better than any picture can portray. The Guadalupe Mountain Range and Quitman Mountains is absolutely fantastic, but then I have never traveled any where to see such sights. I can not fathom what the Grand Canyon will be like. Even after taking some pictures of the mountains and looking at them, it does not reproduce the sight. There are some small mountains just to the east of the campground here. Tomorrow we will get out and do some driving and may take a trek over to White Sands Missile Range Museum.

Going through El Paso was not much of a joy. Lots of traffic and not much to see unless you like to stare at builings and houses and it seemed to go on forever! Plus now we are on Mountain time. That makes everything another hour off! It's kind of cool having that happen as you set time back, but think it will suck going the other way and losing time. There is something I love about being in a strange place I have never been before that I love. I can't explain it but it is thrilling.

Sunday November 27th, 2005

Tonight we are setting in Pecos Texas at an Escapee park. Nice rate of $12.50 a night. Last night we stayed in Baird Tx. kind of a run down park but an ok place to stop for the night. Today the wind was TERRIBLE, blowing at times up to 50 mph. Our truck did not do to bad but Mickey and Patti's Rv was being tossed all over. We did good till the last 10 miles before stopping here. The wind was beginning to toss us around so it certainly was a good time to rest. The milage on the truck went down hill fast today. I installed a chip programmer for performance on the truck a couple days ago and it makes a huge difference. Our first tank of fuel we got an extra 1 mpg. May not sound like much but when you're only getting 8mpg it is a big plus! The other difference was the transmission wasn't shifting back and forth between gears going up hills.

We were beat from driving today so we decided to go out and eat. Well seems about everything in Pecos is closed on Sunday so we ended up eating at the Flying J resturant, if you ever decide you might just grab a meal while there make sure you order it and don't get the buffet. Hot food cold and cold food warm pretty much describes it. But we didn't have to fix it and we were hungry so it hit the spot.

Was interesting to watch the landscape change coming thru Texas. It started out everything was brown and dead and some hills. We then progressed to more scenic landscape scattered with rock formations and tumble weeds and lots of cactus. Speaking of tumble weeds, we had a HUGE one blow in front of us WOW they make a big noise when you hit them! Don't want to do that again. Anyway the land then transistioned into sandy dunes and cactus and 50 miles farther changed again to hills in the distance and green beginning to cover the fields that were previously cotton strewn. The wind created hugh dust clouds that looked like stormy weather. Hopefully Tuesday when we leave the wind will be minimal. Next stop will probably be in New Mexico. I have included a couple of pics on the road and one of Major after a long day of driving.

Friday November 25th, 2005

Evening Update:
Well we did it again and ate out! Pizza tonight, it's a rule with Patti that Friday is Pizza night. So off we go the the local Pizza place Mazzio's (must be a chain as we saw some of them in Tulsa) we each get the 2 pizza deal so we can go back to Mae and Terry's to feed them. While we are waiting on the pizza's we get bread sticks and drinks. Hell me and Mickey are damn near full already and we still have pizza coming! Well we go back and eat it and now we are bloated like heck! Swore we weren't going to do it again but we did!

So we get back and decide it is time for Major to get a bath as he has been digging a lot so I con him into the bedroom and put him in the shower with me and BOY OH BOY was that fun! He is such a sissy. Cried the whole time plus by the time I am done with him I have to get in and take a shower. But hopefully tomorrow he will smell better and quit digging.

Well Thanksgiving is over and we got stuffed as expected. Mickey and Patti joined us at Mae and Terry's for dinner and Mae's youngest son Jimmy. We took the dogs with us so they would not be alone and Mae was kind enough to put her's outside so ours could come inside. With a great feast of Turkey, smoked ham, potatoes, dressing, corn, fruit salad, cheese, cranberry sauce, buns and a load of different pies, Apple, Pumkin, German Chocolate, Lime. WOW we were so stuffed within 15 minutes and still a ton of food left over. Later in the evening Mae's oldest son and wife with kids came over to visit. Tom, Stacy, Cody and Cannon. Was great to see them again. Tommy and his oldest son are deer hunting today.

Well tomorrow morning we take off for Arizona, we will take probably about 5 days to get to the campground we will stay at for the month of December. Won't be much time to sightsee on the way but maybe we can squeeze in a little.

Tuesday November 22nd, 2006

Today we went to check out Turner Falls which is a scenic overlook of some falls that are used during the summer for an day type park with swimming and such. Below is a pic of the falls. Warm today at almost 70*, sorry you guys are so cold back home! :) Looks like some snow showers for you guys. More later.

Monday November 21st, 2005

We went to the National Park here just down the road and visited the Nature Center and took a hike. Trail was about 2 miles long round trip and we got to see some small waterfalls and a couple of Armadillos foraging for food.

Sunday November 20th, 2005

Update 8pm central

HOLY COW! What a feed. Smoked county ribs, potato wedges, homemade corn bread, homemade cole slaw, beans (YUK) and corn. Way toooo much food but sure was good! Mae's the best! Just topped it off with a nice glass of milk and Chocolate cup cake. SWWEEEEEETTTTT!

Well we got moved today to a very nice park Arbuckle Rv Resort. This is a nice setting out in thte country with 2 fishing ponds and fantastic hookups. It's a little chilly today 54* but suppose to be in the 70's by mid week. That will be nice. I think I see some fishing in my future! In a little bit we are going to the sister-in-laws to have smoked ribs, that sounds good doesn't it! HMMMMM. Got the satellite setup with my new roof mount. Makes for a nicer setup without the tripod on the ground and safer. Getting the signal was a breeze and had it locked in within about a minute. Tomorrow we will do some tourist stuff and will write more.

Saturday November 19th, 2005

We arrived in Davis, Oklamoha this afternoon about 1:30. We are currently at a park called Canyon Breeze but to tell you the truth we are not too crazy about it. We get this weird feeling about how safe it is to leave all our stuff here while we are gone. We checked out several parks after setting up here and found another one 20 miles away we are going to move to tomorrow morning. One park was so far back into the boonies that the Buffalo took flashlites and guns with em! This is more of a stop overnight type park right on the highway and REALLY outdated. All the full hookup sites have the sewer at the back of the site as would have been fine 20 years ago when all rv's had tanks at the back. So we are parked sideways taking up 4 spots to get our sewer to hook up. $16.50 a night is an ok price but like I say not crazy about the area. We did stop to see some Bison that were at a State Park along the way. I say Buffalo and Mickey say Bison...........WHATEEEEEEVER!!

We made it over to visit Deanna's sister for a while and had dinner with them. Mickey and Patti went back to their RV as Mickey was pretty beat from driving. We came back ourselves after hitting the store for some grocery's about 7:30. Distance traveled today was about 200 miles. We will be here till next Saturday in Davis. Hope to get lots of sight seeing done this week.

Thursday November 17th, 2005

We left Ohio a week ago Wednesday and arrived at the KOA in Terre Haute Indiana later that day. One of the biggest changes for us was we traded our dually pickup for a larger C4500 Chevy Medium Duty Truck as our Dodge was just overloaded with weight. This truck does not get the milage as the Dodge but has the capability to safely pull the trailer without overloading it. So far we are averaging about 8.5mpg in fuel and thankfully diesel is coming down in price. We paid $2.25 a gallon today. Much better than the $3.40 we were paying a week ago in St. Paris. Anyway we only stayed in Terre Haute for a day as our intention was to visit our friends Keith and Mary who own the campground and also our friends from Bemidji Bob and Jane who were down for a day. We were going to spend a couple of days there but Keith and Mary had to leave for a meeting in Nashville and Bob and Jane had to transport a minature horse in their VAN back to Minneapolis! Since all of our friends were gone we decided to move on to Branson where our other friends Mickey and Patti were patiently waiting for us since the first of October. We left Thursday morning and drove straight to Branson that day arriving about 6pm that night. That was a total of about 400 miles. More than we like to travel in a day but were anxious to get there. Was great to see them again and we have had a great time since arriving. We also got a chance to meet up again with our other friends from Bemidji KoA that live in Hollister just outside of Branson. Gunnard and Virginia. Was fantastic to see them again and they showed us a great time! Gunnard always knows the best places to eat. We had lunch at a place called Lamberts which was MORE than enough food. The neat thing is they THROW the rolls to you from across the room! Sometimes fast pitch! Lots of what they call pass arounds which is a bowl of something they just offer, maybe macroni or peas, fried potatoes or slaw. Can't go hungry there for sure. Then we all went to the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield which is more than a store. It is like taking a hike. SOOO much stuff to see, inside aquariums, ponds animal displays etc. Fortunately we made it out without being broke! Mickey spent some money buying a CB radio with weather channels. That was a great trip. Then Wednesday Gunnard and Virginia took us to lunch at a Cafe called Hard Luck, super burgers and all the waiters and waitress's sing between taking orders. Was great and Gunnard got some pictues of me with a couple of the girls and Deanna with one of the guys. Hopefully we will get copies of the pics and will post them.
Wednesday night we had dinner with my cousin Becky and her family. Becky and Roger took us to dinner at a Mexican resturant last week that was fantastic but maybe not as good as the Japaneese place that was just to packed to get into. But it sure smelled GREAT! Their boys Todd and Dane have a business called Explosive Contractors Inc. which is a pretty good description of what they do. Their main thing is clearing rock along the highway for new roads. This would be when you are driving down the road and wonder how they put the road thru with the shear rock walls, well they drill down thru the rock and fill the holes with explosives and blow it up! They also do a lot of work at Quarrys. On the average now they are using almost a Million pounds of explosives a week! Their largest job was a total of over 1100 holes and blew up 3-1/2 acres at once! We watched a video of some of their work and it was pretty impressive. Will make it back that way again and will spend some time to watch them in action.
We left Branson on Thursday morning headed to the sister in laws south of Oklahoma. We are currently in Tulsa now and will probably leave on Saturday to our destination there. Tomorrow we are going to do a little sight seeing and maybe catch a museum while here. Weater is fairly cold. Got down to 18 last night but fortunately here in Tulsa is only suppose to get down to about 30. Mickey and Patti are traveling with us. We like to only travel about 200 miles a day, by the time we get up and get moving by 10 am the 200 miles puts us about 2-3pm which is a good time to get off the road before traffic picks up.
Truck is doing pretty well though seems a little underpowered on hills so I am adding a power chip to the computer to try and compensate for that. Overall it makes a good tow vehicle except the ride is terrible. Another reason to only travel 200 miles a day as it will beat you up pretty bad.
Major is doing pretty well without Keesh traveling with us. He always has travelled well but we were concerned about him being all alone now and expecially when we leave him in the trailer alone. Seems he is adjusting and that is comforting. Till next time................
